The legendary Turkish ska-punk band Athena is coming to Berlin! On April 12, 2025, the band led by twin brothers Gökhan and Hakan Özoğuz will heat up the Kesselhaus at the Kulturbrauerei. With their unique mix of ska, punk and oriental sounds, this evening promises to be a highlight for music lovers and fans of energetic live performances.
Since their beginnings in 1987, Athena have undergone a remarkable development: From thrash metal to ska-punk to an unmistakable fusion of Turkish tradition and Western musical styles. With their album Holigan (1998) and songs like Tarlaya Ektim Soğan and Yaylanın Çimenine, the band brought traditional Turkish melodies into the ska-punk genre and captured the hearts of the audience.
The big breakthrough came in 2004, when Athena represented Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul with their hit For Real and took fourth place - the country's highest score in the contest to date. The song was not only a success in Turkey but also internationally, making it into the German singles charts and bringing Athena onto the stage as the support act for Die Ärzte.
In addition to other successes, such as the anthem On İki Dev Adam for the Turkish national basketball team or their contribution to the FIFA 06 soundtrack, Athena always remained true to their passion for cross-genre music and powerful messages.
After more than 30 years of band history, Athena is not only a musical phenomenon, but also an icon of the Turkish rock and punk scene. Live, they impress with a rousing stage presence, energetic rhythms and songs that guarantee goosebumps galore.
Experience an evening that combines ska punk, Turkish melodies and pure energy in an incomparable way!
