With the Eagles Of Death Metal, frontman Jesse 'The Devil' Hughes is living his rock'n'roll dream. Thanks to classic danceable songs and great shows, they are one of the best live acts around. It all began with an idea from former school friends Joshua Homme - frontman of Queens Of The Stone Age - and singer/guitarist Jesse Hughes, still the band's defining duo on studio recordings today. in 1998, the two founded the Eagles Of Death Metal in their hometown of Palm Desert in the Californian desert - initially just because they liked the name. The great music behind it, an infectious mixture of boogie, rock and blues, only emerged later.
With the albums "Peace Love Death Metal" (2004), "Death By Sexy" (2006) and "Heart On" (2009) as well as an almost superhuman live workload, they built up a steadily growing fan base. Their concerts mutated into exuberant rock happenings complete with poses, sweat and air guitars. Hits such as "Cherry Cola", "I Want You So Hard (Boy's Bad News)" and "Wannabe In L.A." went on to dominate the mainstream. Nevertheless, Jesse Hughes temporarily put his Eagles on ice in order to succeed with his side project Boots Electric.
The Eagles Of Death Metal returned in 2015 with their fourth album "Zipper Down", which charted highly almost everywhere. In their live version, the band currently consists of Scott Shiflett (guitar), Jennie Vee (bass) and drummer Leah Bluestein alongside Hughes. Their return to the clubs was furious and the euphoria was immense. Until their fateful concert in Paris in November 2015: they were the band at the Bataclan in Paris who witnessed terrorists shoot a total of 89 people dead in the club during their concert. The musicians only took a few weeks to process what they had experienced - then they returned to the stage. in 2017, the film documentary "Nos Amis (Our Friends)" was released about the events in Paris, a deep look into the soul of Jesse Hughes. Certainly also in order to find the lightness in making music again, the album "EODM Presents Boots Electric Performing the Best Songs We Never Wrote", released in 2019, turned into a pure cover album, with groove-soaked versions of (mostly older) hits by rock legends such as KISS, Guns N' Roses and The Ramones, but also surprising pop numbers by Mary J. Blige, Cat Stevens and Wham! And the last release to date also consisted of third-party material - an EP with six typical Christmas classics, which was released at the end of 2022. But now the time is ripe for the Eagles of Death Metal's next regular album, which Hughes says they have been working on for over two years now, although it remains to be seen exactly when it will be released. No wonder, with a band that is on the road so much.
