The Italian band Calibro 35 plays Morricone, with songs from his crime and western films such as "Wake up and die", "A Fistful of Dollars", "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and more.
Since the band was founded in 2007, "Il Maestro" Morricone has been an important inspiration for all members of Calibro: Tommaso Colliva, Massimo Martellotta, Enrico Gabrielli and Fabio Rondanini. The Italian composer, who is known worldwide for his soundtracks, is deeply rooted in the artistic activities of CALIBRO 35. "Trafelato" from the soundtrack of 'Giornata per L'Ariete' was the first track Calibro 35 recorded when the band got together in the studio for the first time on July 21, 2007, and was later released on the band's self-titled debut album in 2008. "Il Maestro" has always been a source of inspiration for Calibro 35, traces of his work can be found in each of their seven studio albums. This intimate and deep relationship, based on a thorough research and study of his extensive catalog, led CALIBRO 35 to dedicate a double album to Morricone in 2022, "SCACCO AL MAESTRO", an ambitious project that explores all facets of Morricone's work: from crime to western to horror themes. Italian and international artists such as Matthew Bellamy, Joan As Police Woman, Elisa, Diodato, Alessandro Cortini and Roy Paci are involved in the two volumes. This event is just another milestone in the successful international career of CALIBRO 35: recognized worldwide as one of the coolest projects of the independent scene, they have been sampled by artists such as Dr. Dre in Compton ("One Shot One Kill" feat. Snoop Dogg), Jay Z ("Picasso Baby"), The Child of Lov & Damon Albarn ("One Day") and Demigodz ("The Summer Of Sam"). They have performed on stages across Europe and have collaborated as individuals with PJ Harvey, Mike Patton, John Parish, Muse, Stewart Copeland and Rokia Traoré.
