Dekker announces 'Future Ghosts', his third longplayer; his most complex album to date with ten tracks full of love and loss
Loss. 'Future Ghosts' is perhaps a little more melancholic than its two predecessors, but the songs come across confidently and with a
Sense of reverence and curiosity that keep the artist and the listener on their toes.
The American singer-songwriter Brookln Dekker, better known by his stage name Dekker, has a steadily growing global
steadily growing audience, with an international radio presence and over 70 million streams. Following the release of his
Debut album 'Slow Reveal: Chapter One' in 2020 and 'I Won't Be Your Foe' in 2022, Dekker returns in 2024 with 'Future
Ghosts' in 2024.
Dekker on "Future Ghosts": "After completing 'I Won't Be Your Foe' in 2021, I knew I had achieved something special
had succeeded. 'I Won't Be Your Foe' was an attempt to use my songs during a difficult period to create a picture of how I wanted to be
and how things should feel. For the new album 'Future Ghosts', it was now time to write songs that reflect how I really feel and what's going on with me
how I really feel and what's going on with me.
As the focus on Covid started to fade, various health scares and bad diagnoses in my extended family took its place
my extended family. As an artist, things were going well, streaming numbers and ticket sales were steadily increasing, but I was struggling a bit more than usual in my personal life
struggling a bit more than usual. This imbalance brought with it fears about health and a premonition of mortality.
I started writing this album when my daughter asked me, "What happens to us when we die?" I told her that I didn't
i didn't know exactly and that we should start looking for an answer together. At that moment, we wrote together
the title track of the album 'Future Ghosts'. Somehow I knew that I had just set the tone for the album: reflective,
melancholic, not overly indulgent and with a slightly more vibrant feel than my earlier work. I continued writing and recorded the first demos, which led to the first session with my partner Stefan Wittich (drummer and co-producer) in his Berlin studio in spring 2022. When we recorded the drums, we only worked with four microphones. It was exciting to limit ourselves in this way and experiment with sounds. While I was trying out different guitars and recording techniques, Stefan was editing the drum tracks and adding different percussive elements. I am an impatient writer. I don't like to dwell on details and I don't like to wait during the creative process. However, there were long periods of several months between many of the steps on this album - for very human reasons. Today I can see that this time has been good for the album and has helped it to feel as alive as I had hoped. These songs are about pain, loss and disorientation, but that's not the intended message or mood. The album is about life and its many mysteries.
