On April 23 last year, the renowned Berlin theater scholar Prof. Joachim Fiebach passed away. He would have been 90 years old in June of this year.
November last year marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first academic
of the first academic institute for theater studies
at Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität (now Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin),
probably the first institute of its kind in the world.
The two events are directly linked, as Prof. Fiebach was one of the Institute's defining academics for several decades (1960s to 1990s) and is also one of the most internationally respected representatives of the discipline.
Prof. Fiebach has trained many generations of students over the decades,
who are still working in well-known theaters, radio, film, television and cultural institutions as well as universities and schools.
The event serves to commemorate his personality and his
his life's work in theater studies through intergenerational encounters.
