On April 21, the Catalan literature festival will bring together poetry readings, workshops and gastronomy in various venues at the Kulturbrauerei. The Maschinenhaus will also be part of the festival with two very special events: an author talk will reflect on the future of the art of storytelling and a concert will bring the classic voices of modern Catalan literature to the stage in a new form.
Utopia vs. dystopia. Creation and destruction of worlds. With Julia Friese, Pol Guasch, moderated by Miriam Zeh.
Start 4 pm
A common feature of the new generation of European writers is their reflection on an uncertain, changing time that promises no certain prospects for the future. After the end of the grand narratives, the only way out - the only refuge - seems to lie in the most immediate circles and the creation of a new idea of community: Friendship, family, motherhood and other social institutions are changing, taking on new meanings and giving rise to new scenarios, new worlds in which we can protect ourselves from what we have inherited. Catalan writer Pol Guasch and German author Julia Friese will talk about all this and much more. The event will be moderated by journalist Miriam Zeh.
The event will be held in Catalan and German with simultaneous translation into German.
An event organized by the Representation of the Government of Catalonia in Germany and the Institut Ramon Llull.
Lleona in concert
Start 20:30
Lleona is a musical project by vocal artist Blanca Lamar (Les Sueques), poet Maria Callís and music producer and musician Cristian Pallejà. Their performance gives a voice to the great Catalan women writers of the 19th and 20th centuries: from Maria Antònia Salvà to Dolors Miquel and beyond. Lleona [Catalan for "lioness"] offers a selection of texts and poems that Lamar and Callís have often recited. But Lleona wouldn't be what it is without the musical arrangements: a blend of styles, rhythms and layers of sound that stand out from the pop melodies and the occasional raucous recitative. In Lleona, there are sunny corners and rooms in the shade: there are luminous songs and those that penetrate the darkness. And in Lleona, of course, there is also the rhythm that pulsates through everything: The marimba, the palmas (rhythmic clapping), the castanets and the Italo disco-style rhythms are at the service of the verse, and the verse is driven to follow the strict beat master. Lleona is passionate about tradition: the artists immerse themselves in the literary canon and recreate the poems.
Organized by the Institut Ramon Llull with the kind support of the House of Poetry and the Catalan Tourist Board.
