Introducing Melbourne-bred, London-based band HighSchool, the biggest promise and best-kept secret of Australian post-punk.
HighSchool, consisting of Rory Trobbiani and Luke Scott, make infectious music. Their debut EP Forever At Last from 2021 is a lo-fi gem of the genre and has already achieved cult classic status. They've already come a long way in their first year, receiving acclaim from the likes of NME, The FADER, CLASH, DIY, PAPER and So Young. While " Forever At Last" was a brilliant introduction to an important new band, the new single and video "August 19" continues the arc of their debut EP seamlessly. Coinciding with the release is the announcement of HighSchool's signing to [PIAS] Australia.
'August 19' explores themes of nostalgia, adolescence and young love. Written with the poignancy of hindsight, they reflect on how schoolyard romances meant everything back then, all-encompassing but all too often fleeting. 'August 19' leans more towards the bedroom-pop side of her sound than any of the tracks before it. Poppy Billingham's backing vocals from Sunken provide the perfect counterpoint to Rory, while Luke's deep bass and an infectious, driving snare sound ensure it's just high school.
