Bongeziwe Mabandla is an award-winning musician and artist and is regarded as the enigmatic spirit of African soul. He has recorded four highly acclaimed albums and has already performed on numerous national and international stages. The South African is a sought-after collab partner who has extended his talents to film and visual arts.
Mabandla is part of the Black Alternative sound, which has established itself as a unique and captivating form of music. He first caught the attention of music fans with his debut album "Umlilo" from 2012. Since then, he has released three albums in collaboration with composer, instrumentalist and producer Tiago Correia-Paulo. His latest album "amaXesha" (2023) has brought the singer, songwriter and musician from the rural town of Tsolo in the Eastern Cape to the international stage.
His numerous awards include two South African Music Awards, the best music video at the Capital City Black Film Awards 2018 and the "Global Album of the Month" award for "amaXesha" from the British newspaper The Guardian.
Mabandla's acclaimed live performances regularly take him on sold-out tours and to international venues and festivals, including London's 100 Club, Reeperbahn Festival (Germany), Lake of Stars (Malawi), Afrovibes Festival (Netherlands), Womex (Finland) and Oslo World Festival (Norway).
After his sold-out concert at the Privatclub, Bongeziwe Mabandla is back in Berlin and will be playing at the Kesselhaus der Kulturbrauerei on May 23, 2024.
