Ukulele Death Squad
Ukulele Death Squad is an 8-piece extravaganza from Adelaide, Australia. Their unconventional approach to the ukulele has wowed audiences worldwide since their formation in 2017.
Their music borrows from various genres: flamenco, ska, folk, jazz, pop and rock - with a good dose of black humor. They combine "hardcore" ukulele with rich vocal harmonies, pounding rhythms, outrageous solos and sensual saxophone.
The live shows of the group from Adelaide are so raw that they smash not only strings but also ukuleles. With a punk rock attitude, The Ukulele Death Squad will embark on their second tour of Europe in 2024, with new members, new music and the same kind of mayhem that has earned them critical acclaim at prestigious festivals such as the Adelaide & Edinburgh Fringe, WoMAD (Adelaide), WoMAD (UK), Boomtown (UK) or the Dranouter Festival (Belgium).
"It's as if Tarantino met a traveling mariachi band and infused them with the punk ethos of The Saints, with a touch of folk and flamenco. World music has never sounded so funky" - Scenestr Magazine.
The Beez
The Beez, who formed in Berlin in 1997 and now live in Australia (loooong story), play their only official Berlin concert here in summer 24. They return with their purring bass accordion, grumpy yet velvety electric guitar and wonderful vocals. The informal, humorous nature of their performance full of seriousness and self-irony, the icing on the cake of the show, fits easily into any luggage rack and is always with you. Together with Sarah Busuttil (violin/vocals) and Silas Palmer (Hammond organ/violin/ukulele/vocals) from Melbourne, they have picked up two honorary superbees. Old and new hits, their own songs and unconventional cover versions of famous songs were extensively rehearsed and rehearsed. And lo and behold, the Queen is back in the game: Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen! Those who already know The Beez know what that means, those who don't can look forward to a great new discovery.
