"The puppet magician from Georgia with his world in an old suitcase"
Armenian artist and puppet maker Armen Hovhannisjan lives and works in Georgia. All his work fits into an old suitcase. With self-made dolls he creates a unique world full of fascinating characters and stories from the capital Tbilisi. People of different cultures have been living together there for centuries.
Only as an adult did he realize how important fairy tales are, says the artist: their magic can be experienced through his puppets. During the performance, the audience can forget reality for a while; they are immersed in a sphere full of poetic images, colors and sounds. Before our eyes, the old Tbilisi reappears, with colorful balconies full of carpets and street musicians - even singing animals perform.
Because it is so difficult to change reality, Armen has built his puppet theater: With it, he wants to help people keep their imagination.
