For the first time in Germany!
Iranian artist Rana Farhan sings in a cool, bluesy style that transcends time and erases all boundaries, delighting listeners around the world. Rana Farhan defines her own genre, a unique fusion of classical Persian poetry with contemporary blues and jazz.
Born in Iran, Rana Farhan grew up listening to every album she could get her hands on and developed a love for American blues artists. After graduating from Tehran University, she left Iran and soon found herself in New York City, absorbing the music of Manhattan, including the culturally rich neighborhood of Harlem, where she discovered her love for jazz.
In New York, Rana Farhan teamed up with guitarist and producer Steven Toub. After recording a track called "Rumi's Prayer" and distributing it over the Internet, the response from American and international listeners was overwhelming. Wanting more, Farhan and Toub began writing and recording the album "I Return," drawing on the Persian poets Rumi and Hafis to put together one of the most sensitive fusions of two distant cultures.
Rana's popularity in Iran prompted Iranian filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi to feature her in his award-winning film "No One Knows About Persian Cats." Ghobadi says Rana is an important figure in the Iranian music scene today. "Like needle and thread, Rana connects East and West through her music."
At her concert at Kesselhaus, she will be accompanied by guitar, bass, drums and saxophone.
