In the spring it's time: Gísli Magna & Band from Reykjavík celebrate their Berlin debut on May 7, 2023 with a concert in the Kulturbrauerei (Maschinenhaus). Advance ticket sales are now underway!

At the concert, the audience can expect a special program with songs in Icelandic in the style of the 1950s and 1960s. Swing, jazz, coffee house, bossa nova and a lot of poetry sound in the music, which plays directly into the hearts of the audience. A total of seven musicians in Icelandic-German line-up promise a wonderful evening of Icelandic music, which is rarely heard live in Berlin.

Gísli Magna is known as the acting conductor of the largest Icelandic women's choir Léttsveit Reykjavíkur in Iceland with more than 120 singers. As a singer, he has collaborated with Björk, Sigur Rós and many other internationally known Icelandic artists. With the concert, Gísli Magna presents his latest album „Nóttin og þú“ („The Night and you“). On the album, he rearranged the work of his grandfather, then an organist in the Icelandic Westfjords, and sang it himself.

The music paints jazzy sonic pictures of life on the rugged northern island while being inspired by the sophisticated sound of 1950s American swing. Rootedness and wanderlust, joie de vivre and melancholy, frivolity and humility: the concert by Gísli Magna & Band oscillates poetically and sonorously in the field of tension between these poles and offers rousing entertainment at the highest level.
