The Monika Roscher Bigband returns to the concert stages with its wild reinterpretation of the classic jazz large ensemble. On their new album, they manage a breathtaking balancing act between fragile inwardness and symphonic grandeur, between artpop, rock, electro and jazz. This is the sound of a band that loves adventure, that, driven by an insatiable hunger for musical symbiosis, surprises and reinvents itself again and again.
The ensemble was founded in Munich in 2011 and quickly caused a sensation with its impressive live performances and the compositions of singer and guitarist Monika Roscher, as well as an enthusiastic media response in the press, radio and TV. With their first two albums "Failure in Wonderland" (2012, Enja - Jazz Echo Newcomer of the Year) and "Of Monsters and Birds" (2016, Enja), the band played at numerous jazz festivals in Germany including Jazzfest Berlin, JazzBaltica, Jazzfest Burghausen, in the philharmonic halls of Hamburg, Cologne and Munich and found themselves in the line-up of rock, electro and art festivals including Zappanale, Fusion Festival, Stroke Art Fair. Outside of Germany, she made guest appearances in Salzburg, Prague and Istanbul, among others. The US DownBeat listed them twice as "Rising Stars" in its critics' poll.
The band, a wild 18-piece collective of virtuoso individualists that has grown together over many years, celebrates each other's musical freedom, challenge and inspiration at each of their rousing concerts.
The forthcoming third album makes it clear once again how modern and exciting a big band can sound.
